It's time to sign up for the May WIP challenge! Some people join the challenge mid month, or comment on check-in posts without signing up, which is fine -- I'm glad there's a way for the challenge to be useful in a variety of ways. For those of you who find the commitment of signing up useful, please leave a comment with the below information.

Sign-ups will be open until the end of May.

Level of challenge: 1 chapter, 1000 words, 1 fic finished, whatever you like
Fandom(s) involved: if you know at this point
What you're looking for from the challenge: this could be as vague or specific as you like: someone to be accountable to, someone to remind you to write, someone to bounce ideas off, etc.
What you could offer other participants yourself: ditto!
How people should contact you: DW message, e-mail, IM etc.
Time zone: useful for seeing who might be up for a writing session at a time convenient to you

Copypaste below:

The post for hosting the daily check-in is here and thanks to everyone who helps out with this. If you're interested in helping out and there are still slots available the post remains open until the last week of the month and we generally run our week Sunday to Saturday, I'm happy to chat via PM on DW for anyone who might need it.

If you have ever completed a fic through this challenge we have a collection on AO3 and on SquidgeWorld both collections are open and unmoderated. Should there be an issue with adding a work, let me know and I'll see if there's a fix for it.

Volunteers for May

Challenge 298:
DISAPPEARANCE
These days, it’s not easy to disappear. There’s legal records, digital records – it’s hard to vanish entirely. But it’s still not impossible, and some people find it much easier than others. Before cellphone cameras, it was a lot easier, and in a world without modern technology, or with much better technology, it might be easier still.

Do your characters want to disappear? Or are they looking for someone who’s gone missing? How hard is it to vanish, for them? How hard is it to find someone who’s disappeared?

Write a story about a disappearance.

BONUS GOAL: “It’s like he just disappeared into thin air.”

If your submission features this line, it will earn an extra point to be tallied in voting!

Challenge ends Monday, April 27 at 9:00PM EST.
• Post submissions as new entries using the template in the profile
• Tag this week's entries as: [#] submission, 298 – disappearance
• If you have questions about this challenge, please ask them here

This week's prompt is pun.

Your response should be exactly 100 words long. You do not have to include the prompt in your response -- it is meant as inspiration only.

Please use the tag "prompt: #491 - pun" with your response.

Please put your drabble under a cut tag if it contains potential triggers, mature or explicit content, or spoilers for media released in the last month.

If you would like a template for the header information you may use this:

Here are the entries for this week's challenge:

List of entries )

In order to vote, please reply to this post using the form provided. All comments are screened, and entries are listed in the order they were submitted. For your vote to qualify, you must fill out your entire voting card (all three spots) in order to be counted. First place votes are worth 3 points, second place votes are worth 2 points, and third place votes are worth 1 point. Meeting the bonus goal on an entry gets an extra point for that submission.

When voting, please copy/paste the ENTRY NUMBER and the FIC TITLE from the list above into the spot you're voting for (this prevents accidentally mis-numbering a vote and casting it for the wrong entry). It should look like this:

First Place: 61. Fic Title Here
Second Place: 88. Another Fic Title
Third Place: 47. Finally a third fic title goes here

Please note that you cannot vote for your own entry, and that votes cannot be made anonymously. You do not have to be a member of the community in order to vote, nor have submitted an entry for this week; everyone is welcome to participate in the voting. IP addresses are logged to prevent duplicate voting.

Voting closes Wednesday, April 22, at 9:00PM EST.

Story: Tales From the Neighborhood
Plot Thread: Grant/Scott/William
Colors: Warm Heart #14: Blame
Styles and Supplies: Life Drawing, Gesso, Watercolors ("Stories that revolve around a love triangle often presume the presence of would-be binaries: a hero and a villain, the righteous and the evil, the good and the bad. But what happens when the roles are blurred and no one is out to hurt the other? In Ida Lupino’s 1953 drama The Bigamist and the recent dark comedy television series DTF St. Louis, the focus is on the humanity of all three characters within their marriages and the ambiguity of their actions. Taking a cue from the sympathetic nature of these characters, write a short story that involves a love triangle that is similarly even-keeled. How can you experiment with point of view, humor, or dramatic circumstances to create a narrative in which all members of the triangle are imbued with equally powerful traits of complexity and pathos?"), Tempera ("Queen of Cups reversed indicates someone with blocked psychic abilities and an emotionally unstable nature. In this reversed position, the nurturing and compassionate qualities associated with the Queen of Cups become overshadowed by moodiness and irrational behavior. This card warns of being excessively self-sacrificing or getting entangled in emotionally draining relationships. It urges you to take time for self-reflection and regain a sense of emotional stability and self-care.")
